PROCESS OBJECTIVES
1. Locate/gather/analyze info from prim. & sec. sources, such as artifacts, diaries, letters, art, music, lit., newspapers, &
contemporary media. (1.1)
2. Identify, evaluate, and draw conclusions from different kinds of maps, graphs, charts, diagrams, timelines, and other
representations such as photographs and satellite-produced images or computer-based technologies. (1.2)
3. Interpret information from a broad selection of research materials such as encyclopedias, almanacs, dictionaries,
atlases and cartoons. (1.3)
CONTENT OBJECTIVES
In the second semester, students will study the following civilizations:

Japan
Islamic civilization
Aztec and Maya
Inca
Native Americans
1. Apply the concepts of scale, orientation, latitude and longitude, and physical regions. (2.1)
2. Compare political, physical, and thematic maps. (2.2)
3. Define, recognize, and locate basic land forms and bodies of water on appropriate maps and globes. (2.3)
4. Define characteristics of culture and the role culture played in the development of the world’s peoples. (3.1)
5. Compare/contrast common characteristics of culture, such as lang., customs, shelter, diet, traditional occupations,
belief systems, and folk traditions. (3.2)
6. Evaluate the impact of selected civilizations on migration and settlement patterns. (3.3)
7. Identify and describe major world political systems and the role of governmental involvement in such systems. (4.1)
8. Identify and describe major economic systems and the role of governmental involvement and individual decision making
within such systems (such as traditional and market economies). (4.2)
